The university has grown rapidly from a start with 73 students, to a roll of around 10,000 in 2020.
Its name translates as “University of Commerce“, with the motto ‘Local Identity, Global Vision’
In early 2019 a “ranking of rankings” exercise found that it was one of only four Turkish universities to appear in all 11 leading international rating systems, including the Times Higher Education World University Rankings
Its vision is to “carry out interdisciplinary studies that are necessary for the information age without losing its academic flexibility”
Students are spread across four campuses in Turkey’s largest city, two on each side of the Bosphorus strait, with the most provision in Culture and most postgraduate work at Eminou, plus a satellite campus at Bursa
There are six faculties

• Communication science
• Law, engineering, and design
• Commerce and applied science
The 20 research centers include one specializing in European Union issues and another focusing on the credit ratings of leading Turkish companies
– While the majority of courses are taught in Turkish, courses in business, economics, mechatronics, electrical-electronics engineering, and jewelry engineering are offered entirely in English, and some others with 30 percent English content
– The English Preparatory school offers training courses in the language
– Among the associated Institutes, the Institute of Foreign Trade is described as “the graduate academic unit which forms the core of Istanbul Commerce University“
Student lawyers are encouraged and often funded, to compete in international moot competitions, while Bistlab offers finance students a Stock Market simulation laboratory
The University is in the center of Istanbul, which is one of the world capitals of culture. Campuses are located in Kucukyali and Sutluce on the shore of Golden Horn, the historical peninsula in the midst of historical locations, almost beside the commercial centers. With six faculties, Graduate Schools of Social Sciences, Science and Engineering, Finance and Foreign Trade and English Preparation school, Istanbul Commerce University has an important place in the academic world with national and international activities held each year, with its academic studies as well as its publications.

Istanbul Commerce university students generally stay around campuses which are the best location for students in terms of social activities, easy transportation access.
Students prefer to stay in many accommodation options in terms of student hostels, flatshare apartments, and dormitories.

There is a variety of dormitory alternatives for every budget in Istanbul, Istanbul Commerce University has special agreements with dormitory establishments beginning with the 2015-2016 academic year.

Students Exchange Program (ERASMUS +)
ICU accepts students in the frames of ERASMUS + bilateral agreements and MEVLANA exchange agreement from partners in Europe, the US, China, Russia, and others each year to study for a semester,full-year, and summer programs, offering a range of subjects across their three campuses in the city.
